Edtech: the Shilp-se-Shiksha app
that brings local contexts and narratives via crafts to primary school children.
A mock-up of how a child can learn the Hindi alphabet by using a touch screen device, where s/he can tap on a part of the letter to reveal a word associated with that letter. Sound feedback of the word is also possible.
By creating an app which addresses local communities in their own language, employing their local crafts and culture to engage with the learning project, this project brings ownership of digital content back to the local community.
Providing new avenues to explore for craftswomen while also enabling school children to learn to communicate and become literate, from India's rich craft narrative traditions.

Globally, technology is revolutionising the way education is experienced, consumed and purchased. Internet access has improved, along with user interfaces and the content and services provided in online environments.
The manner in which education is delivered has remained broadly the same for hundreds of years. Technology is changing that through edtech. Edtech applies digital technology to deliver a new form of learning architecture. Additional embedding of a handicraft in edtech tools not only humanises the tool but in this case helps to sustain and empower talented women artisans.
